Become You 03:28
I saw you playing on the beach I heard you calling each to each I heard you laughing I heard you shout to make a sound I saw you spinning round and round The joy of moving Mummy will feed you Daddy will read to you They know the story And all you really got to do Is become you I saw you staring at your hand I saw banging on the sand Its so amazing I saw you staggering around I saw you falling to the ground I heard you crying Mummy will hold you Daddy wont scold you They will surround you And all you really got to do Is become you One day you’ll be as old as we You’ll have to worry what’s for tea You learn to calculate the fee You know that nothing comes for free Mummy won’t be there Dad’s just a memory Still all you really got to do Is become you

It don’t rain down Turnpike Lane That’s not true That’s not what they’ll tell you Down the Lane - Turnpike Lane Go to the bottom come back again In Turnpike Lane The old couple smile there’s smoke from their charcoal fire Sheftalies is nice We come from Cyprus down to Turnpike Lane Turnpike Lane Do you want chilli sauce on your donner kebab In Turnpike Lane You can buy your consumer durables Shop in style At Wood Green Shopping City Down the Lane - Turnpike Lane You got to spend money if you want to stay sane In Turnpike Lane The escalator screams like seven starving kids That’s when it works Sometimes there’s a sign says Please walk down Please walk up Go North young man on the Piccadilly Line To Turnpike Lane

Rise up Rosie the circus is coming to town Rise Up Rosie the wheels are turning around Rise Up Rosie I know that it’s cosy inside Rise from your bed I know that it’s cosy Know that it’s cosy inside Rise up Rise Up Rosie and leave all your sorrow and sigh Look up Rosie there’s things going on in the sky The river is flowing and you are a part of the stream The plan is unfolding and you are a part Yes you are a part of the team Rise up Rise up Rosie the whole world is calling to you Rise from your bed and put on those sensible shoes The circus is coming the circus is coming to town Rise Up Rosie the wheels are turning The wheels are turning around Rise up

Sometimes it’s a particle and sometimes it’s a wave You never really know how it’s going to behave Some say it’s the singer and some say it’s the song Sometimes I wonder if I’m seeing this wrong Use your common sense here and you’ll look like a fool Down at the quantum level they got their own rules Here’s a deep mystery like the great white whale And what it comes down to a matter of scale Well everything is relative and space and time are curved Nothings really happens until it’s observed Like Nils Bohr says he’s the one who made the bomb If you ain’t confused here you don’t know what’s going on You never can be certain that what Heisenberg said That damned cat is he alive or is he dead Momentum or position you can measure on your oath But you make yourself a liar if you say you know both Was the universe set up to make us all in advance Or can it really be just a matter of chance Some say its her figure and some say it’s her dress I wonder who the universe is trying to impress Some say it’s a particle and some say it’s a wave Some say it’s a shadow on the back wall of cave Some people say that the many’s really one and One day we will see things in the light of the sun

Three Fish 03:44
Here’s a river wide and deep, running down to the sea And by that river in a pool, are swimming fishes three Three big lovely fat fish swimming in a pool A Wise Fish, a Clever Fish, the third one was a fool Here come two fishermen with their fishing tackle With rods, poles, hooks and nets - ready to do battle To catch a fish and cook a fish and eat it is their plan Clever, wise or stupid fish, it’s all the same to them That’s the way the story goes Thats the way the river flows on And soon the hunters’ shadow falls, makes the sky grow dim Wise fish calls out loud and clear “Here’s danger we must SWIM !” Down a channel to the stream and fast as he can flee With flashing fin to save his skin, (the) wise fish he is free The men they see the channel now and quickly fill it in Have a care my scaly friends your luck is wearing thin Clever Fish is thinking hard and trying to work it out Stupid fish is wondering what the fuss is about Well clever fish is clever so he makes a clever plan He takes some stinking mud in his mouth to fool the fisherman He swims up to the surface then and keeping still and cool Belly up he floats upon the surface of the pool -.- The fishermen they fish him out and quickly smell the mud Says one man to the other one I think this one’s a dud The other takes a little sniff and quickly does agree They throw him in the river and the clever fish is free Now stupid fish there’s little to tell, not much more than that He made a very tasty meal They gave the bones to the cat That’s the way the story goes Thats the way the river flows

Rachel 04:41
Walking in the garden one day The doctor sees his patient there She says it’s spring She knows the thing That moves the seasons through the air This is the girl who does not speak She doesn’t know how many days are in the week Walks with a shuffle and pebble glasses too This girl does suffer from low IQ Now that my mother’s dead she said I don’t need no more of your classes I need a pattern in my life, like the one on your carpet I don’t need your number lines I don’t need your how many times If you will just be quiet for long enough we might hear the tune

Lea Valley 03:25
To jump into great Atlantic breakers Or float on my back in a lagoon Deep pools of lover’s eyes, waterfalls Swimming drowning drinking the monsoon But when it’s time to cross the great water I know where you will find me Sitting with a friend on a bench by a canal In the Lea Valley There’s the pylons that march across the scrubland Walk your dog when the day’s work is done Maybe there’s geese on the reservoir That shines in the evening sun There’s fishing and boating and sailing Each kind of facility Have your affairs Lose all your cares In the Lea Valley

You be the baddie – I’ll be the good We’ll have us a battle out in the woods You be the goodie – I’ll be the bad Come in your hoodie - perfectly clad You can be Peter and I will be Paul You know I’ll be ready whenever you call You can be Peter I will be Paul You come on over – we’ll sit on the wall We’ll fly away Blue skies or grey Mum grew the vegetables Dad grew the flowers They’re out in the garden for hours and hours Dad grew the flowers and Mum grew the veg They talk to the neighbours over the hedge They talk to the neighbours over the fence Dad says to Mamma you’re making no sense Mum says to Dadda close to the edge You grow the flowers and I’ll grow the veg We’ll fly away Blue skies or grey You be the baddie -I’ll be the good You be the scally – and rule in the hood I’ll be the baddie – you be the good I’ll be the saint – who’s misunderstood You can be Peter and I will be Paul You can come over – we’ll sit on the wall I can be Peter and you will be Paul Cinderella can go to the ball We’ll fly away - Blue skies or grey

Mesmerised 04:01
He sits down by the window Takes out his handkerchief Shakes it out in front of his face Wipes it across his forehead While she moves gently towards him Stops behind his chair Takes out her blue comb Pulls it through her hair And time stands still - And life waits awhile He checks his watch - She feigns a smile There’s just no time left for them Not even a moment to spare If he doesn’t turn around now She will just be standing there Hope in bubbles of stillness She reaches out her hand Touches the crown of her head He turns around And life starts anew - And life moves a pace He looks in her eyes - And smiles light up their faces They sit down by the window With the garden far behind The sunlight fills their vision field And peace fills up their minds In the field of right and wrong They meet in the space between Their bodied rise and fill with breath They hold each other tight again And life dances on And they start to fly - And he looks in her eyes And she is mesmerised - And he is mesmerised

Go Kid Go 03:16
Go Kid Go Go kid go - in and out the bikes Superman - goes where he likes
Go kid go - don’t go slow
They said if you go so fast - they said you wouldn’t last If we don’t tie you down Will you burn up the town If we don’t tie you down Burn up the town burn up the town burn up the town Go kid go - don’t go slow
You won’t get very far if you don’t steal a car If you try to steal mine I’ll consider it a crime If you try to steal mine you’ll do time If we don’t tie you down Will you burn up the town If we don’t tie you down Burn up the town burn up the town burn up the town So you went out on a spree
You fell off and cut your knee
You can come running to me
You can come running to me
Wipe off all the blood, it doesn’t seem so bad Get back on your bike and ride get
Back up on your bike and ride get
Back up on your bike and ride and ride and ride and Go kid go - Superman is on your side Get back on your bike and ride They said if you was a rude boy You wouldn't get no food
You belly full of truth You beautiful youth If we don’t tie you down Will you burn up the town If we don’t tie you down Burn up the town burn up the town burn up the town Go kid go

about

Here are songs written over a period of twenty-five years or so. Some are recorded solo but many feature the wonderful musicians I have played with over the years. I am profoundly grateful to all of them.
